![]() | How to deal with a change of address |
There have been some changes to street names & addresses in Didim in recent months. Changing your address is necessary and not the daunting process most people expect.
Once you see that your street has been given an official blue metal plate street number, and your property has also been given a blue metal plate property number, you can then follow the steps below to notify the appropriate parties of these changes.
What do I need?
Your original TAPU (Title Deed)
Where do I go to make the changes?
The Land Registry - Maps Office opposite the main Belediye (Council / Municipality Offices) building in Didim. The man at the desk will know, without asking, why you are there.
He will put the details from your Tapu into the computer, print out your new information and sign it.
What next?
Belediye
Opposite the main reception desk you can obtain photocopies (cheapest place in Didim). The staff will change your information for Council Tax purposes. In the same building go to the Water desk(s) and they will change your address for billing. (None of these will keep photocopies)
TEDAS
the Electric company is the next step. Leave a copy with them for billing (leaving a copy at the reception desk does the job).
Insurance Company
it is also important that you notify your change of address with your insurance company to avoid the possibility of coverage being affected.
N.B. As at the date of printing, WIT has been advised by a local solicitor that if you do not yet have a formal address (i.e. a blue metal plate affixed to your property by the Belediye/PTT) it is recommended that on any application forms etc., if you write your ADA NUMBER and PARSEL NUMBER (these details are on your TAPU) somewhere onto the application form, this information should be sufficient to protect you from the possibility of, say, a rejected/voided insurance claim due to incorrect address details.
Finally, anywhere you use your address (Bank, Turk Telecom, Digiturk etc) should also be given a copy of your new address details (i.e. once your property has been given an official blue metal plate property number)
![]() | How to renew a residency permit in Kusadasi |
You can renew your Residency Permit at Kusadasi. All you need is a photocopy of your details from your Passport (the page with your photograph on and passport number etc. and also a copy of the page with your last visa stamp on it). You also need to take 3 Passport-sized photographs and your tax number.
The procedure is as follows:
1 Go to the police station at the harbour where there is an office that deals with visas.
2 The policeman or policewoman will write on a piece of paper your details and the amount you have to pay which is currently (2008) 568.50 ytl for one year. They will sign it and stamp it.
3 You take that piece of paper with your fee to the tax office where you get an invoice from a counter person, then take that to the counter where someone else will put the information into a computer. Another paper is generated which is then handed to the next desk where you will pay the amount required.
4 You will get a receipt which you then take back to the police station where you leave your photographs, photocopies and present Residency Permit.
5 You will then get a form to fill in and you only fill in one side, which is personal details (you may get this from on your first visit to the police station).
6 You will then be asked to call back in approximately 2 hours later to pick up your renewed Residency Permit.
It is better if you go early in the morning to do this, so that you will get it done in one day.
If you leave it until mid-day or later, you will probably be asked to return the day after to collect it.

FIRST APPLICATION
The documents you will need to take with you - for your first application - are 6 Passport-sized photographs, 6 copies of your Tapu (Title Deed)/or receipt of purchase/or A valid rental contract, your original Passport plus 6 copies of your entire passport (make sure to include the photo page and the last Visa Stamp date of entry to Turkey).
If you are renewing your Residency Permit, you will need to take your Passport, blue Residency Permit book, and 4 Passport-sized photographs.
You will need Turkish lira for the payments.
TRAVEL BY BUS
It is best to catch the 9.00 am bus (larger than a dolmu? - but not a full sized coach) to Aydin from the Didim Seyahat bus stop (outside Sonia's café, close to the bottom of Ataturk Boulevard). The current fare is
10 ytl - each way. The direct bus will detour into Soke and then back out again and onto Aydin. Alternatively you can get the Soke bus, and in Soke Bus Station, catch the Aydin bus. The cost is 5ytl from Didim to Soke, and 5ytl from Soke to Aydin. It usually takes about 1¾ hour to reach Aydin.
When travelling by bus, as you come off the motorway into Aydin, approximately half a mile along the dual carriageway on the left hand side (immediately after a set of traffic llights at a major junction) you will see a building known as Aydin Emniyet. It is in a built-up area on the opposite side of the road on the outskirts of Aydin, between the Total petrol garage and Shell petrol garage. Tell the drive in advance that you want to go to Aydin Polis Emniyet Ofisi and he will drop you off direclty opposite the building. It is a large pink building, set back from the road, has flags and a large statue in its courtyard, and is guarded by policemen.
Enter the building, and pass through the security check (all bags will be checked). Go through the double doors immediately after the security check, and staying on the ground floor, turn left before the stairs. Go to the end of the corridor, enter the last office on the left and speak to the policemen there. Your documents will be taken from you, and you will be asked how many years you wish to have your permit for (1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 years).
You will then be given a form to complete (it is in Turkish and English) which needs details of your mother, father, next of kin, place of birth, contact phone number etc.
Return this to the police officer who will then give you a piece of paper with the required amount on and the address of your next stop (the council/tax office "Maliye").
Come out of the building, cross the road and catch the No. 7 dolmus. Say to the Driver "Zafer lutfen". He will know where you want to go - or show him the address on your piece of paper and he will drop you off close to the building.
The Maliye is in a side street in Aydin city centre (adjacent to the river). Go into the building, up the stairs, to the first floor. Go into the office on the left and to the counter on the left. Your Passport needs to be shown here. Hand over the piece of paper given to you by the police. Your details will be entered into a computer. You will then be given another piece of paper which you take to the next desk. This is where you pay your money. Make sure you have the correct amount in Turkish Lira. You will then be given a receipt to take back to the Polis Emniyet.
The Emniyet office closes for lunch between 12 noon and 1 pm.
This may be a good time to take a look around Aydin for shopping and/or get something to eat. Alternatively if you return straight away to the Emniyet building, then on the right hand side of the courtyard before entering the actual Emniyet building, there is a cafe which serves drinks and snacks.
To return to the Emniyet building, go back to the road where the dolmus dropped you, cross over and go down the road opposite, to the dolmu? stops on the right hand side of that road. Take the No. 7 bus back to the Polis Emniyet. Again ask the driver for the Polis Emniyet (which is after the Shell garage). Get back to the Polis Emniyet for 1.00 pm (to ensure that the process can be completed in time for you to catch the
2.00 pm bus back to Didim).
Once back in the Emniyet office, go back to the same office as earlier and, where possible, see the same policeman who gave you the receipt. He will ask you for about 80 ytl per person. Again make sure you have the correct money available. This is the fee for the actual blue Residency Permit book. You will then be asked to complete the form, if not previously completed during the first visit. You will then be told a specific day on which to come back to collect the Residency Permit - this is normally 7 - 10 working days later. REMEMBER to take your Passport with you - for formal identification - when you return to collect your Residency Permit.
Catch the bus back to Altinkum-Didim, immediately outside the Emniyet building. The bus to Didim is at 2.00 pm - the last bus is at 4.00 pm.
Do not forget that you will need to go back to the Emniyet office on the day specified by the Polis a week later to pick up your blue Residency Permit book.
RENEWING YOUR RESIDENCY PERMIT
As at the end of December 2007, the Polis advise that you should make application for renewal of your Residentcy Permit immediately after it expires. You have 15 days "grace" within which to do this. However, as is typical in Turkey, many people will tell you differently - for example, that you can renew 15 days BEFORE expiry of your current Permit (indeed this is stated quite clearly at the back of your Blue Residency Permit, in both Turkish and English) OR you can go as early as 2 months ahead of expiry and you will be credited with those 2 months.
However in order to save a wasted journey to Aydin, the best advice would be to renew your Residency Permit within the 15-day period IMMEDIATELY AFTER your expiry date.
When renewing your Residency Permit, you only need to take 4 Passport-sized photographs, Passport, current Residency Permit, and 4 copies of your Passport photograph page with you. Also you will need the correct amount of Turkish money to pay at the Maliye (Tax Office).
The procedure is more or less exactly the same as obtaining your first Residency Permit. Again you need to go to the Emniyet office for the necessary checks, complete the form, obtain the slip of paper to take to the Tax office. Catch the No. 7 bus to the Zafer area or show piece of paper to the driver. Go and pay your fees, then return to the Polis Emniyet. You will be instructed when to return to pick up your re-newed residency permit, again usually 7 - 10 working days. Once again, you will be told the exact day of the following week on which to return and collect your renewed residency permit.
When renewing your Residency Permit, you do not need to pay the 80 ytl fee again - unless some information needs to be amended, or the book is badly damaged.
